NetCentric's roots are in the Southeastern United States, particularly in Florida and Alabama. With a strong background in high-tech, Huntsville, Alabama was a logical location for NetCentric Technologies. Huntsville is home to the US Space Program, NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, and the Apollo, Saturn 5, SkyLab, and Hubble projects to name a few. It also maintains the 3rd largest research triangle in the world and supports a thriving high-tech community, a skilled workforce, and a business-friendly economy.
In 1998, NetCentric got its start supporting local entrepreneur Keith Lowe's Huntsville Business Ventures and WireSpeed (now RedHat, Inc). NetCentric's work there opened many doors of opportunity. The first client was the State of Alabama's Information Technology Association (AITA) based in Birmingham. This exposure to the state's technology industry provided numerous opportunities for a fledging NetCentric start-up. 1999 proved to be a growing year with the addition of many Huntsville based organizations including the local business incubator BizTech and a number of its clients.
Between 1999 and 2000, NetCentric Technologies, LLC, was incorporated in the State of Alabama and expanded its customer base into three additional states Florida, Georgia, and Michigan. With this expansion came two national accounts - Intergraph Corporation and Disney Sports Attractions. As NetCentric's reputation for quality grew, the company was able to expand beyond Huntsville into key accounts like Birmingham's Balch & Bingham, one of the south's largest law firms.
Throughout 2001, NetCentric continued to grow its sphere of influence both locally and out of state. An account with The University of Alabama at Birmingham further entrenched NetCentric in Birmingham. After loosing a Y2K bid for Huntsville's 2c Computing (now Avocent Corporation), NetCentric later secured their patronage in a redesign, maintenance, and promotion contract and now supports two company divisions.
NetCentric began shifting its company focus in late 2000 to address the needs created by the doc.com bubble-burst. The goal was to counter the many factors that lead to the collapse and to better respond to industry needs with more comprehensive and strategic solutions. To achieve this goal, NetCentric focused its efforts to help clients realize how 'technology creep' was interfering with the sound marketing principles that are key to their success. By reinstating marketing at the forefront of Internet projects - instead of as the afterthought they had largely become - NetCentric was able to see its clients reap the benefits of better market share, greater consumer awareness, stronger sales, and thriving online business. Since then, this focus has been a core strategy for positioning NetCentric as the South's premier Internet marketing consulting and services firms.
Another first for NetCentric was an Intranet development project for the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) as a subcontractor of Intergraph Federal Systems. NetCentric also further entrenched them selves in the entertainment industry with key account, STG Media, a radio entity that plays to dozens of radio markets throughout the south. This arrangement resulted in services for two of Huntsville's top radio stations, WAHR - Star 99, and WRKT - Rocket 95.1. The year 2003 brought with it another national account and another Georgia customer - M&M Innovations, the manufacturer of Dental White teeth whitening system. With sales of over 6 million units, M&M contracted with NetCentric for search engine optimization, multimedia production, and email marketing services.
